My last few days in Chile were pretty epic, I got to stay in the pimpest hotel, the Hyatt, in the center of Santiago and also went snowboarding again, this time I hit the bigger jumps and got a 180 and some grabs and also was close to a grab 180, I also hit the sliders, frontside slid and 180′ed the flat bar then went onto a harder one which went down, straight, then down again, I ate it sooo hard and tumbled down the snow but got it on my second go.

Also here are the results from this year and some podium shots.

I got:
5×1st
2×2nd
3rd and 6th as discards

Kevin:
3×1st
3×2nd
3rd
2×9th as discards

Alvaro:
2×2nd
3×4th
5th
6th
9th and 12th as discards

Now I am on my way home, I will be in England for the most of October.
Also there will be a movies from Brazil coming soon.
Check it out!

4x WC and 1st !

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

The day after my birthday the wind was up, the conditions were the same as the singles but the waves were slightly smaller which was better for the Freestyle.
First I came up against Peter from Russia, this heat was to secure the title, on my first trick I lost my board which was pretty nerve racking but soon after I got into it a started to nail all my moves, it was a pretty solid heat and I was pretty sure I had made it through. Now I could relax, I had nothing to loose, I was stoked on the 4x WC but I was straight away focusing on the next heat, I heard the result as I sailed in towards the beach then just went straight out to practice for the final. By this time I just wanted to prove my riding and come through to 1st place to end the season on a high.
I started the heat with a Front Mobe - Blind, Mobe and switch Slim. During the heat I managed 4 switch including a KL 3, a bunch of powered passes, a Double S-bend - Blind and ended on a Back Mobe - Wrapped, it was a pretty floor-less heat and I was pretty confident I had made it through. I came in and heard that I had won and then was straight back out again.
The next heat wasn’t quite as good as the first but I still managed some good moves, I got a few switch, KL Slim 5 and a load of powered passes, I landed everything pretty clean, then coming to the beach found out that I had won the event!
I couldn’t believe I had done it, I put so much effort into it and it paid off, I have had some of the best few days in the last week and this just ended the season perfect.
I can’t explain how stoked I am but I’m sure you can imagine, I have really enjoyed the event here in Chile, I got to meet some great guys and hang out with a bunch of cool people.
I still have a few days left to enjoy the country, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Freestyle

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Yesterday started with the second round of freestyle, I advanced 3 heats on the way to the final knocking out Majiek a RedBull team mate and mate from Poland, Mike from Austria and Cesar Portas from Spain. I was riding pretty well throughout the day and was well confident with my riding, in each heat I got some good Front Mobe’s - Blind, a couple of switch and all my main powered moves powered and clean. In the one heat I got a double S-Blind and held the BlindSide, in another got a Back Mobe - Wrapped and the other a switch KL 3.
I got to the final to meet Kevin again, the wind had picked so I was lit on my 9, I started the heat Ok with a normal start, in the heat managed about 8 powered passes but ended up repeating one trying something else, I also got a KL 3 but only on my 2nd attempt and landed a Front Mobe - Blind. At the end I went for a Mobe-Wrapped but not sure if it was counted cause I couldn’t see the flag. It wasn’t my best heat ever but it looked like Kevin crashed a bit too, I thought it might be close but again it went to him.
Hopefully I can kick it in the doubles.

Chile

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

I arrived down at the spot a few days ago, it is in the middle of nowhere with only mobile internet, limited network and a couple of hotels and supermarkets. The actual conditions are pretty sick, for freestyle it is quite hectic due to some rocks and big waves but for wave riding it is totally sick, there is an amazing point break that peels a perfect left down the beach.
So far yesterday was the first day with wind, first they decided to run the wave qualifier, it was basically a few heats just to decide the seeding as it is the first event like this. I decided to go strapless as I feel that’s the way forward and how I want to ride even though it may be more difficult, I think I was practically the only one without straps along with Shinn who’s board I got to borrow but it was still well good fun in the 5-8 ft swell.
Martin, Sky and Guilly from Brazil were absolutely killing it although the seeding won’t be announced until later today. After the wave session they held the first round of the men although I had a by through to the second so didn’t have to ride.
Today looks the same as yesterday so I’m sure we will get some more wind in the afternoon. Will try to keep you posted.

Brazil

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Sorry that I fell off the face of the earth for a while I have been in the North of Brazil with hardly any Internet.
I’m in a bit of a rush but to let you know quick I was up in Sao Luis for a RedBull competition that was all about endurance. I ended up in second behind Ruben. I started about 40 seconds behind him and ended up abut 15-20 behind him by the end, I got a couple of harsh deals, I dropped my kite and tripped an edge on the way which was a shame cause it would have been fun to have had a closer finish with him. It was still loads of fun though, we had to ride about 8km, then run over dunes for 3-4km, then kite another 8 or so. It was well harsh and difficult but it was great fun.
After that we ended up taking a 4×4 to the PKRA competition that was South of the event we were just at.
The conditions there were better than any other Brazil event in the past, mainly cause there was loads of wind, I ended using my 7 most of the time.
In the singles I had a pretty epic day, I was well confident with my riding and had fun getting to the finals, I came up against Kevin and had a decent heat, I went for it as hard as possible but got harsh deals on some landings, The highlight was a KiteLoop grab 5, KiteLoop Bosch Mobe and a proper Front-Mobe 7-Heal-side, these were the moves that wasn’t landed so well allow I managed a load of other powered tricks. I though it was a really close heat but the judges seemed to reward quantity over risk factor which gave Kevin the win.
In the doubles I came straight up against Alex Pastor who had come up through the double. I had a great heat. I started off with some passes-wrapped and blind with kite a bit higher, just to prove that it’s not so difficult, then moved on to some harder more powered, tweaked moves, which is more my style of riding at the minute and what I think looks way better. I got a powered switch KGB, nailed all my moves super fast and powered and also went for a Whirly 3 although that wasn’t quite landed.
I was well please with myself and was pretty sure I had made it through, every time I looked around at the other guy I saw that he had crashed or butt-checked, but I guess I missed a few of his moves.
Unfortunately the judges gave a 4-1 decision against me, which was hard to believe, they said he done a couple of double passes although I thought his kite was really high.
I guess that’s just the way it goes some time, hopefully I’ll get some better luck in Chile.
Will let you know. Ltr.

Germany and Home

Friday, August 31st, 2007

During the day of the single elimination the wind turned out to be up and down, it started off light then picked up until I needed a 7, it was poring down with rain and each heat had different winds due to the massive clouds that kept blasting past.
The singles went well for me, I was confident going into the heats, my first jump of the comp was one of the biggest Mega Loop’s I had done in a while. I kept my consistency through out the day and ended up against Kevin in the finals.
Everything was going well and I was having a really good heat, I had nailed quite a lot in the first 5 minutes and was ready to step it up to seal the deal, I went for a S-mobe but as I went around something was wrong, my leash had got wrapped around my other arm and I had no choice but to hold on and get dragged out of the box, if I had let go I probably would have seriously injured my arm so I figured it wasn’t worth the risk. In the last minute I got a couple more moves in but it wasn’t enough to take 1st.
In the double on the last day I came up against Rui, I had an amazing heat with lots of powered move, switch, and finished it off with a laid out KL Bosch Mobe.
In the next heat I came up against Kevin, I would have to beat him twice to win. In the first heat I though I did pretty well, Ruben had got knocked out the day before because of lack of switch so I thought I would go for that for the points, I managed all my normal moves plus 4 switch moves and a front mobe - blind. I thought I had done enough to get through to the second heat but unfortunately the decision went the other way.

After prize giving we drove straight back to Holland to drop Ruben back home, he managed to persuade us to stay a couple of days and it turned out to be epic, we went flow boarding a couple of times and also to the cable, we had loads of fun but Tuesday afternoon we decided it was time to get back home.

Right now I am back home, this weekend I am heading down the coast, the forecast looks good and it will be fun to hook up with everyone again.
Lets hope the wind arrives.

Here are some photo’s from the event, including the KL BoschMobe, thanks to Marc Pettersen for taking the pictures.
