2nds

Cabarete was pretty strange this year, I didn’t ride my 9 or 7 once, most of the time I was on an 11 or 13.
In the singles I ended up 2nd, it wasn’t my best heat although apparently it was still close, in the doubles I came up against a dominican, half way through my lines snapped all the dominicans on the beach started cheering and telling people not to help me with another kite, I though that was pretty nice, defiantly one of the reasons why it is not one of my favorite events, luckily I had already done enough to keep 2nd and challenge 1st.
In the final it was up against Kevin once again, I had a good heat and felt pretty confident I would go through to have the chance to win in the final heat of the day. The decision went the other way, they said he had more speed and amplitude.

It seems that this is what the judges are looking for now, speed and amplitude, which is quite disappointing, pretty much you can keep your kite high, send it a little and as you come in dive it down lower, this can give the illusion of power and is the only way to land at that speed.
Obviously if your kite stays in the same place, low, through out the trick it is hard to get the same height, and if you do go really fast and high in choppy conditions you drop out the sky making landing super difficult.

Tarifa this year was also quite strange and actually quite similar to DR, the off shore megaloop weather, which I was looking so forward to, never came. Instead it was cross-on and not so strong.
This time I got knocked out in the 3rd round for the same reason, once again not enough amplitude, this time I couldn’t really handle it so in the doubles I came back from about 9th - to the final with some of my best competition riding.
With distance in mind, i did what I could, luckily towards the final I could still give the crowd some spectacle, I was lit on my 9 and could get a few mega loops, I also landed one of my best tricks in a while, mega loop, un-hooked handle pass, then spin into a back roll with a grab, I was pretty stoked with that.
Coming up though the doubles is pretty hard and tiring, I had to do 7 heats, I finally came up to Kevin, I had a decent heat, got loads of moves under my belt, had another hooked-loop 3 although another close decision went his way again.

I’ll be back in Fuerte!

Kevin is riding very well , but i think you are going to win the PKRA this year .

Anyway , you´re being at least the 2º at every pkra event , that´s great .

I think you will land 7’s very soon , keep your style and “megaloops” and give great shows in competition .

    good luck !!! .

  3. Doro K. Says:

    Aaron,

  5. clay Says:

maybe you can give the judges a bit of what they want, but keep your style! the way your kiting has evolved is sooo cool and your current style is just mental. keep it up!

  6. Piloo Says:

    Cheer up…

    You are the best!

    Good luck for Fuerte.

    England rocks

  7. Frank Says:

You enjoyed yourself, had fun and made a great show for the audience that is what really counts. Can’t wait to see you kiteboarding in Germany.

Maybe you are even growing more with that second place. At the end of season they will count the points.
But anyway have fun and good luck!
    Frank

  12. Eddie Irvine Says:

Azza seems you went off the rails, ITS ALL ABOUT DISTANCE AND HEIGHT, I done some research I found the next level vid which will help you go back to 2 or 3 years ago. http://www.kiteforum.tv/video/next_level.html?Itemid=0

don’t worry, when i was in caberete i saw a dog do a big poo on Luciano’s kite…i mean i didn’t race in there to stop the dog…:)

  20. cas Says:

maybe you should give kevin some credit for winning, and not blame the judges.

  21. other Marcus Says:

Come on! sontavento here we come… …
    But be warned…
…LOTS OR NAKED GERMANS ON THE BEACH. AHHH…

  22. Darius Says:

you were awesome man - knew it was going to be close - see you back in Cabarete next year..

  23. Gfunk Says:

“Illusion of power”.. Exactly that, just an illusion! Keep charging it hard powered up. Your riding is sick. Maybe throw the judges a dangle bone here and there but keep pushing it the direction you’re pushing it!

  24. thomas Says:

it is always hard to be ahead of your time, there is no doubt you are the better rider so just keep pushing and do it your way!!

  25. Curro Says:

Champion is the word that appears in my head when I listen aaron hadlow. We go phenomenon. Regards.

  26. Bobby BOOM Beck Says:

Aaron, don’t forget to post on the blog as things progress. I think it’s kind of a “good luck charm” for you to do this. You went “incognito” for the two events and the little guys over here were wondering what they heck was going on. Extreme Elements.TV is great, but there’s a lag between events and videos going online. We’re here to root for you bro. All the best. Kevin rocks, but you have the best style and tricks by far! Keep pushing it!

  27. andy Says:

GO AARON..YOU ARE THE BEST AND OF COURSE MY TOP RIDER..
    I DON’T LIKE KEVIN STYLE..LOOKS GAY.

  28. Will Says:

    It’s seems you’re a bad looser, that’s a pity.
Could it be Kevin was a bit better at that moment?
keep up the the nice boarding and stop complaining.

  29. aaronhadlow Says:

    Cheers guys,
Will still keep my style going no worries, thats how I like to ride.

There’s no doubt Kevin is a good rider, I never said anything different, his style is just different, also i can except loosing I’m just writing how I think it is.

  30. Wavey Says:

    Hey Aaron,
Keep doing you’re thing man, although the judges don’t love you at the moment, the south west(GB) still does.
Make it 5 times for all your fans and more importantly yourself.
I can’t see it being repeated if you do, plus you normally come good in the second half of the season.
    All the best
    mark
PS tell Jo Wilson that all the Bantham crew want too see her back on the podium again!

  31. Joaquim Onied Says:

Show me a GOOD loser and I’ll show you… a LOSER!

  32. NT. Says:

OK. Kevin of course is trying so much. but you can not try such kev. you are best and its known for all. Bye Aaronman-superman!

  33. Doro K. Says:

    Aaron,
keep your fantastic style, but remember what the judges were looking for(speed, amplitude).
Show them that you are the best rider.
Good luck in Fuerte/Sotavento(very nice place), hope you will win… cheers D.

  34. Forrest Says:

Are we kiters or are we trapeze artists? I’m so tired of watching people try for sent mobes on my home beach. Aaron, you’re riding says this exact thing when I watch your videos.

Maybe it’s time to go the way of the video and stop competing. The PKRA is not where the future of this sport is being molded. It’s wrong of the judges to expect you to fit their mold. When the world’s best rider speaks, the PKRA should listen.

  35. richard Says:

kevin is a mashine and a very nive guy, but he lacks one thing only you have right now in my eyes: STYLE. so keep on the good work, you dont need another pkra title to now that you are the best kiter on earth

  36. steve Says:

    dangle,dangle,dangle .NO! NO! NO!

  37. The Turth Says:

    SAY NO TO DANGLE!

  38. cabretis Says:

Hey Aaron, don’t worry about that !!!
You have the best style on the kite world. If the judges don’t see it , then we have to change that dudes !!
I always try to get influences from you and Dre. For me the best two riders on planet.
Please keep pushing that low kite wake style and keep on training on boots and cable parks.
    Bring it on !!!

  39. marco Says:

It’s good that you can except loosing, you will need it the coming time.
You have been winning for 4 times! That’s greet, but now it’s time to give the 1st place to the one who disserves it as much as you did.

  40. jo Says:

Where the f**k are you at man? Aaron’s still the one who deserves it .
He has pushed the sport time and time again .
His kite is always low and powered ,you only have to see his landings.
    He has style
Aaron’s bring on the 5th title.
    Shut these mother f***ers up.

  41. Loz Says:

Everyone knows that people hate because they are jealous. Keep them hating and don´t give up as that´s what they are looking for. Fair do´s, there are many up-and-coming kiters who are bringing more style to their own riding, but everyone truely knows that you still far exceed the others in competitions.
The judges cannot mark you fairly as they don´t know how to do the moves themselves. It seems that they are trying to make the sport more “accessible” to other riders which promotoes the sport further but does not show the many routes available and if they continue the way they are going, it will supress the most amazing riders as well as preventing moves being made.
Don´t stop your amazing style…. Even if the judges don´t like it, everyone watching does. Perhaps videos are the way forward?
    Take it easy x

  42. Blind Judge Says:

Kevin is just much better then he was before, yes your style still better but it isnt that easy to win anymore with an “ok” heat like it was before, now you need your best to win.

  43. marco Says:

Kevin will be the first, you all know it.

  44. jpore Says:

kevin will probably win but Aaron stays a kitesurfing legend… he is the person who pushes this sport to the impossible… good luck Aaron :)

  45. aaronhadlow Says:

It’s only half way through the season

  46. bells Says:

    marco.july 22nd,2008 at 1:08pm.
dude ur a forkin arsehole, which country do u come from? shady is guna kain evryone, i hate u for what u said bout the legend that is also the coolest guy around. if kevin does win, the pkra is takin ten steps back in the way kiteings goin. has anyone seen lou in the early days? that was how it was supposed to be the whole time!!! aaron has taken ova from lou an pushed it 100 times further. fuck competition an fuck evryone who thinks that they are the way forward!! lets see who can make the sickest video… rails, waves, bindings, and your trick book!!! oh sorry… did i 4get to mention the cable! if you can match trick4trick, kite annd cable you are the winner!!! hhhhmmmm who would win that?!
    i reckon he´d be a brit!!!
peace an love to you all!!!
    x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

  47. bells Says:

PS- If u don’t know who lou is u don’t even have an opinion

  48. jan Says:

i think kevin has got style but in a differnt way than Aaron his is more smouth and hardly ever crashes but i think both are evenly matchd but i hop in the end the person that simply rides the best to the judges standerds win tehn als this crap can end, good luck to both of them
