Germany and Home

Friday, August 31st, 2007

During the day of the single elimination the wind turned out to be up and down, it started off light then picked up until I needed a 7, it was poring down with rain and each heat had different winds due to the massive clouds that kept blasting past.
The singles went well for me, I was confident going into the heats, my first jump of the comp was one of the biggest Mega Loop’s I had done in a while. I kept my consistency through out the day and ended up against Kevin in the finals.
Everything was going well and I was having a really good heat, I had nailed quite a lot in the first 5 minutes and was ready to step it up to seal the deal, I went for a S-mobe but as I went around something was wrong, my leash had got wrapped around my other arm and I had no choice but to hold on and get dragged out of the box, if I had let go I probably would have seriously injured my arm so I figured it wasn’t worth the risk. In the last minute I got a couple more moves in but it wasn’t enough to take 1st.
In the double on the last day I came up against Rui, I had an amazing heat with lots of powered move, switch, and finished it off with a laid out KL Bosch Mobe.
In the next heat I came up against Kevin, I would have to beat him twice to win. In the first heat I though I did pretty well, Ruben had got knocked out the day before because of lack of switch so I thought I would go for that for the points, I managed all my normal moves plus 4 switch moves and a front mobe - blind. I thought I had done enough to get through to the second heat but unfortunately the decision went the other way.

After prize giving we drove straight back to Holland to drop Ruben back home, he managed to persuade us to stay a couple of days and it turned out to be epic, we went flow boarding a couple of times and also to the cable, we had loads of fun but Tuesday afternoon we decided it was time to get back home.

Right now I am back home, this weekend I am heading down the coast, the forecast looks good and it will be fun to hook up with everyone again.
Lets hope the wind arrives.

Here are some photo’s from the event, including the KL BoschMobe, thanks to Marc Pettersen for taking the pictures.

PKRA Germany and Cable

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Sorry this was meant to be up a few days ago.

We left my house for Germany Thursday afternoon, I managed to get Neal involved so we took his vanzee and headed for Folkstone to get on the euro tunnel.
We had decided to split the journey by stopping and picking up Ruben in his hometown.
Next afternoon we all set off for St Peter Ording where the competition is going to be held, after a 6-hour drive we made it to the spot to register. Like last year, the event looked well organised with other activities, a good riders lounge and plenty of room for spectators.
Yesterday and the day before the freestyle was called off, there was no wind for both the days and it never looked hopeful, also today it is windless and the forecast doesn’t look good for the rest of the day. We have passed most of the time by chilling in vanzee with some tunes and playing pool but I think the next few days are looking better so lets hope we can get on the water soon.

Below are a couple of clips of Neal and I up at the cable, check it out.

So far it’s been epic here, on Sunday there was a classic see breeze down at Goring Green, it was sunny, warm and perfect for my 11m, I took my new Bindings and gave them another go. It turned out to be great, I was out with Lewis and Neal and we were all going for it and showing each other our new stuff after not sessioning together for ages.
The next day we ended up going to the cable park, again it was epic, I went up with Neal and also met a few friends up there too.
Bells was having it as usual with the biggest Grabbed Backs-Blind you’ve seen and also sliding the A-frame and 540’ing the flat bar.
I had a good day too, it was the first time I have ridden bindings at the cable, I landed some raily’s – blind, got a front blind mobe and a Blind Judge.
Today and the day before I got to test some equipment for a brand new kite which will be released next year, it was well windy both days so we managed to get some good input.
I flew a 6 and 7 so had some massive jumps and Mega Loop’s throughout the days, also kaining some mental over-powered pass’s.
Tomorrow I am off to Germany driving in Neal’s Vanzee, we will meet Ruben half way then convoy together to our destination.
Below are some pictures of us at the cable, the top 3 are me and the bottom 3 are Neal, sorry it’s confusing, we switched boards for a bit.

Thursday on Fuerte

Today was pretty good, we just chilled this morning as it didn’t seem so windy early.
We went to check Flag beach, which is on the NW of the island, but there was no wind. Opposite there is another spot, sometimes this catches more wind so we decided to take a drive across, it turned out to be epic. At first I went for a session in my new bindings, it was fun to try and ride these, it allows you to take the hardest landing and feels so good when you land blind. After, I put my straps back on and went for a full freestyle session, the wind picked up slightly and I was perfect on my 13, also the kickers got better and at the end I got a backside 7 and the hit the next kicker and did a switch 5 but high and with the kite super low, that was probably the highlight but I also managed a Nuclear double s-bend - blind and landed a few switch moves that were super powered and almost felt like my regular ones.

Also I was checking some stuff on you tube and found this, its pretty old but there are some funny wipe outs on it.

Sorry that there has been no update for a while, there was hardly any Internet in the South.
The comp went OK, I came in 2nd, I got harsh deals in the single, my harness came loose in the heat and I lost about 2 minutes, I was up against Kevin and had a good heat but it wasn’t enough to catch up. In the doubles I had a close heat again with Kev, I done quite a bit and went for mega power moves, Kevin did a lot of different trick and also got a front mobe - blind, I think that pushed him through.
I was a bit annoyed at first that I didn’t do better but at the same time I got to show what my kiting is all about, I rode the most powered I have ever rode before and took my kiting to a new level so I am pretty happy with that.
Soon I will upload a movie with some of my tricks on the way in from one of my heats, also there are a few clips of Lewis taking ‘kite low’ to new levels. I just have to compress it and I’ll get it up asap.
Now I am in the North just chilling and riding with friends, for the last couple of days I have been doing a photo shoot for a big catalogue in Europe, it went really well and we got some amazing pictures so that was well worth it.
We are going to try to do a bit more filming before we leave so stay tuned for some more epic action.
